Born 6 March 1909 – 9 May 1987, Obafemi Awolowo was educated at Wesley College, Ibadan and obtained the degree of Bachelor of Commerce (Hons). He then proceeded to England to study law and was called to the Bar by the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple on 19 November 1946. He was the founder of the firm and served as its principal partner till he passed on 9 May 1987, at the age of 78.
He was a very active legal practitioner at the Nigerian Bar and was elevated to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 1978. He was also a very active politician having served as the 1st Premier of the Western Region, leader of the opposition in the Federal House of Representatives at independence and Minister for Finance. Chief Obafemi Awolowo is universally acknowledged as one of the founding fathers of Nigeria.
